Randall started his career 35 years ago as a sound designer and technical director for equity summer stock theater. He then spent a number of years as a recording engineer with a major remote recording truck. Notable clients included NPR, BBC, DIR Broadcasting, NBC Television, CBS Television and HBO. Randall has worked in an engineering capacity for feature films, national television and live album recording with such luminaries as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., The Paul Winter Consort, Gerry Mulligan, Billy Taylor, Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Eddie Gomez, Steve Gadd, Paul Simon, Burton Cummings, The Grateful Dead, The Gerry Garcia Band, The Pretenders, Styx, Hall and Oates, Sugar Hill Gang, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Paycheck, among many others.
From recording engineering, Randall pursued audio systems engineering and acoustical design. After several years designing fixed installation sound reinforcement systems, he worked as a product development engineer and designed a full loudspeaker product line. He also provided acoustical design for systems for voice communication and emergency voice alarm/evacuation systems for clients such as Philips Petroleum, Willamette Paper, Formosa Plastics, General Electric, Dupont, Arco and Occidental Petroleum as well as several nuclear power facilities and offshore oil & gas production platforms. Randall's industrial loudspeaker designs are still manufactured and sold today.
